Jungle Captive

(1945) Second sequel to "Captive Wild Woman" following "Jungle Woman." Mad scientist Dr. Stendahl (Kruger) has been experimenting on bringing dead animals back to life and then attempting to make them human. He steals the body of an female ape (Lane) to practice on and kidnaps his human assistant, Ann (Ward), so she can "donate" her blood. The ape becomes a woman but still has the brain of an animal. This leads to violence. Rondo Hatton plays the hideous Moloch.

Keep

(1983) Nazis are sent to guard an old, mysterious fortress in a Romanian pass. One of them mistakenly releases an unknown force trapped within the walls. A mysterious stranger senses this from his home in Greece and travels to the keep to vanquish the force. As soldiers are killed, a Jewish man and his daughter (who are both knowledgeable of the keep) are brought in to find out what is happening. The Keep is a tale about a mystical force and the battle between good and evil and stripped down to its barest elements.

The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane

(1976) This Canadian-made film, a star vehicle for the then 13-year-old Jodie Foster, is a disturbing, wonderfully acted, well-scripted, and suspenseful study of a murderous 13-year-old girl, Rynn (Foster). Living alone in her father's home, Rynn makes up stories that her father is away when in fact he is dead. She handles the bills, the upkeep, and her own survival, admirably putting into practice what her father taught her. When a snooping neighbor makes a nuisance of herself, Rynn knocks her down the stairs.

The Little Shop of Horrors

(1960) Hilarious, cheapie black comedy from 1960 that may be the best film by B-picture master Roger Corman, Seymour (Jonathan Haze) is an assistant in a skid-row flower shop who's on the point of losing his job when the unusual plant he's developed turns the store into a major attraction. The only problem is that the plant needs human blood to live. Jack Nicholson provides a comic sidebar as a nutjob masochist visiting a dentist's office.

(1931) Fritz Lang's classic early talkie crime melodrama is set in 1931 Berlin. The film is in German but has English subtitles. The police are anxious to capture an elusive child murderer (Peter Lorre), and they begin rounding up every criminal in town. The underworld leaders decide to take the heat off their activities by catching the child killer themselves. Once the killer is fingered, he is marked with the letter "M" chalked on his back. He is tracked down and captured by the combined forces of the Berlin criminal community, who put him on trial for his life in a kangaroo court. The killer pleads for mercy, whining that he can't control his homicidal instincts. The police close in and rescue the killer from the underworld so that he can stand trial again in "respectable" circumstances. Some prints of the film end with a caution to the audience to watch after their children more carefully. This film made Peter Lorre a star.

After the hanging, his assistant claims Savaard's body and uses Savaard's technique on it. Savaard is brought back to life. Now he can seek sweet revenge on his prosecutors.

The Man Who Turned To Stone

(1957) A group of 18th-century scientists, led by Dr. Murdock, have remained young after all these centuries by using electricity to suck the life out of young women. If one of the scientists misses a treatment, his skin hardens to the toughness of stone. A female prisoner discovers why so many of her fellow inmates are disappearing, and attempts to stop them with the aid of a prison psychiatrist.

(1970) Udo Kier is a witch hunter apprentice to Herbert Lom. He believes strongly in his mentor and the ways of the church but loses faith when he catches Lom strangling Reggie Nalder to death for calling him impotent. Kier begins to see for himself that the witch trials are nothing but a scam of the church to rob people of their land, money, and other personal belongings of value and seduce beautiful big breasted women. In the end, the towns people revolt, Herbert Lom escapes and poor Udo is tortured to death by the townspeople with the his own torture devices. This film contains very strong graphic torture including a women's tongue being ripped out of her head and lots of beatings.
